Bernard "Bud" Thompson
Green Bay - Bernard "Bud" Thompson, 96, passed away on Tuesday morning, February 23, 2021. He was born on November 8, 1924 to the late Raymond and Mabel (Hills) Thompson in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Bud was a 1942 graduate from Green Bay West High School. He served in WWII with the U.S. Army attached to the 555th Engineering Battalion whose mission was to build floating bridges to assist General Patton and his troops movement through Europe to defeat Germany. Bud achieved the rank of Master Sergeant before his discharge from the reserves.
Bud met and proposed to Jean Borchers after he sold his car, in order to buy her engagement ring. They were married on May 8, 1948 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Green Bay and celebrated 65 years of marriage prior to Jean's passing in 2013. Bud started his career with the Wisconsin Highway Commission before working for Boulanger Construction Company. He retired from Boulanger in 1991.
Bud enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time at Riley's Bay where they rented a cottage for over 30 years. He and Jean would spend a couple of months each winter in Florida enjoying golf and warmer weather. Bud achieved two holes-in-one during his golfing years - 1 in Wisconsin and 1 in Florida.
Bud is survived by his seven children: Christine (Ray) Chitko, Phelps, WI; David (Linda) Thompson, Howard, WI; Susan (Dennis) Laabs, Greenleaf, WI; Mary Lachat, Green Bay, WI; Jim (Jo Ellen) Thompson, De Pere, WI; John Thompson, Porterfield, WI; and Jo Ann (Glen) Coleman, Green Bay, WI; his numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren who fondly called him Buppa; his brother, Gary (Denise) Thompson, Ashwaubenon, WI; and several nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.

Bud stated in his will, "I ask that there be no formal wake service or showing of my remains, but rather a memorial service of prayer be offered to ask my God for a place of joy for my spirit in His eternal kingdom, with a party to follow to celebrate my newest step forward in the Lord's plan."
In honoring his wishes, the family will hold a celebration of Bud's life, at a later date. Condolences may be sent to www.Blaney Funeral
Home.com, or cards may be mailed to Blaney Funeral Home, 1521, Shawano Ave., Green Bay, WI 54303 to the attention of Bud Thompson's family.
In lieu of gifts, Bud was a proponent for helping others as he would have several grocery bags of food in his hallway ready to be taken to St. Agnes Parish for St. Patrick's Food Pantry. A donation to
your favorite charity or food pantry in his name would be appreciated.
The family would like to extend a special thanks and their gratitude to the staffs of Unity Hospice, Christian Servants Home Care and Blaney Funeral Home.
