Doris Reimer Obituary

Doris M. (Nelson) Reimer, 92, Green Bay, formerly of Florence, Wisconsin, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 19, 2012. She was born June 9, 1919 in Florence, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Ida J. and Elmer G. Nelson. She graduated from Florence High School in 1937 where she played the sousaphone in the school marching band. She worked in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois at the Allis-Chalmers factory and then moved to Green Bay where she worked at the Green Bay School District Office. Doris married Elmer A. Reimer at Grace Lutheran Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin on April 27, 1947. He passed away September 19, 1989. Her primary vocation was homemaker and mother, and also worked as Volunteer Coordinator at San Luis Manor Nursing Home for 7 years. Doris was a member of the Martha Washington Chapter # 124, Order of the Eastern Star, Packerland Chapter of National Campers & Hikers Association, Swedish Club and the Aging and Resource Center Fishing Club and Grace Lutheran choir member. She and Elmer enjoyed traveling the United States with their travel trailer and wintering in Texas. Doris served as an auxiliary member of Bellin Memorial Hospital for over 30 years as Candy Stripe Coordinator, Gift Shop Attendant, Pediatric Tour Guide, and Bellin Scholarship Chairperson among many other volunteer events. She also volunteered at San Luis Manor Nursing Home after retiring as Volunteer Coordinator in 1979. Mom had many talents: She was a meticulous seamstress having lovingly sewn hundreds of beautiful dresses (including a whole wedding party), bedspreads, curtains, and various craft items. She was very proud of her handcrafted Trapunto-style pillows and her nickname - Pillow Lady. She loved her custom license plate - PILOLADY. She was very proud to have been able to drive up until last year. She loved holding rummage sales, clipping coupons, going fishing, and finding a bargain. She enjoyed camping, gardening, and growing beautiful African violets in her front window. Above all else, she deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Doris was a breast cancer survivor twice (in 1988 and 2007).

Surviving are her 3 children: Todd (Jane), Appleton; Linda (Dave) Rabe, De Pere; Lisa (Karl) Devroy, Ashwaubenon; her beloved grandchildren: Mike (Brenna) Reimer, Neenah; Steve Reimer, Appleton; Sara Reimer, Milwaukee; Tracy Devroy, Angela Devroy, Eric Devroy, all of Green Bay; and 2 great-grandchildren, Nate and Ben. Also surviving are her brother, Byron "Red" Nelson; sisters-in-law Elsie Sorenson and Elayne Reimer; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; her infant son, Thomas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ruth and Clarence Bredendick; Esther and Alvin Buth; Emanuel and Janet Reimer; Milton Reimer, Walter Reimer and Dayton Sorenson.

Visitation will be held at Lyndahl Funeral Home, on Monday, April 23, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be an Eastern Star Service at 7:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 321 S. Madison Street from 10:00-11:00 am. Funeral service on Tuesday morning at 11:00 am with the Rev. Larry Lange officiating. Todd,Linda and Lisa: I am in Milwaukee this week but wanted to express my sympathy on the passing of your wonderful mother.
She was never too busy to take us all to the Y and she looked the other way as we tore up your back yard playing kick ball all summer. My memories of growing up with the Reimer family will always have a special place in my heart. May God bless you, Linda Stevens Macco
