Baumgartner, Gene (Geno)

Gene (Geno) Baumgartner, age 60 of Kewaunee died on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Bellin Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 24, 1954 in Kewaunee to the late Eli and Ione (Raasch) Baumgartner.

Geno graduated from Kewaunee High School with the class of 1972. He married Katherine Kowalkowski February 23, 1974 in St. Stanislaus Church in Armstrong Creek, WI.

Geno worked in the construction field all of his life until retiring. He also operated a tree cutting, lawn care and snow removal service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, hunting and fishing in a number of states. He was a member of the local 330 Laborers Union. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Wyoming, British Columbia and Alaska. His serenity was his cottage in Townsend, WI in which he spent countless hours sitting by the campfire and visiting with friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially his four granddaughters. Throughout his life he was known for his unmatched work ethic, which he took great pride in.

Survivors include his wife: Kathy; one daughter and son-in-law: Jackie and Augie Kinjerski, Kewaunee; one son and daughter-in-law: Corey and Sarah Baumgartner, Kiel, WI; four granddaughters: Shelby and Bailey Kinjerski; Lily and Summer Baumgartner; two nieces: Brenda and Dawn; a great niece: Jessie; a great nephew: Nick; five brothers-in-law: Adolph Kowalkowski (special friend, Brenda); Edward Kowalkowski (special friend, Mary); Bernard (LaVerne) Kowalkowski; Francis (Janice) Kowalkowski, all of Armstrong Creek; Patrick Kowalkowski, Goodman and two sisters-in-law: Carole (Jim) Hopkins, Oneida and Theresa Lockwood, Armstrong Creek; special friends: Tim and Brigitte Winkel and Rich and Jackie Orelik. He was preceded in death by one sister: Janice Heiser; a brother-in-law: Art Lockwood and a sister-in-law: Joyce Kowalkowski.

Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28 at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday by Rev. Michael Sullivan. Visitation continues at Community Congregational Church, 502 Center St. Kewaunee after 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. The funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Randall Kohls officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thank you for the compassionate care given by Dr. Kelly Lynch and Nina of the Bellin Cancer Center and the 4th floor nurses at Bellin Hospital, especially nurses, Falicia and Annie.
