Hector Bolduc Obituary

Bolduc, Hector Fr.

Rev. Fr. Hector L. Bolduc, 76, of De Pere, Parish Priest of St. Michael Church in De Pere, died peacefully in the early hours of Monday, September 10, 2012. He was born June 21, 1936 in Gilford, NH, son of the late Hector and Aurore (Theberge) Bolduc. Fr. Bolduc was a veteran of the US Army serving in the European Theatre. He was an avid world traveler and collector. Fr. had been a member of the Marian Fathers in Stockbridge, MA before going to Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He was ordained in Econe, Switzerland on June 29, 1974 by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre.

Fr. Bolduc had been one of the earliest American members of the Society of St. Pius X, and was the District Superior of the Southwest District in the United States for several years until 1984 - after the Southwest and Northwest Districts were united into the present USA District.

It was due to Fr. Bolduc's efforts that the SSPX obtained the substantial properties of St. Mary's, Kansas, Queen of Angels Church in Dickinson, Texas, St. Vincent de Paul Church in Kansas City, Missouri, as well as many other places for offering the Traditional Latin Mass.

For the last 35 years, Fr. Bolduc has been assisting at St. Michael Church in De Pere. He also has been instrumental in the founding of over 20 mission chapels throughout the country. Fr. left a lasting legacy through all those he has touched.

He is survived by his brothers, Kenneth (Barbara) Bolduc, Roland Bolduc, Morris Bolduc, Ernest (Ellen) Bolduc, Armand Bolduc, Robert (Marilyn) Bolduc; his sisters, Anita (Norman) McKeown, Lauretta (Raymond) Seabeck, Helen (Paul) Gaudet, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles A. Bolduc; and sisters, Theresa Tracy and Barbara Colby.

Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, from 4-8pm on Thursday, September 13, 2012 with continual rosary throughout the night. Visitation will continue on Friday at St. Michael Church, 1782 Chapelle Rue, De Pere from 9am until 10:30 when a Solemn Traditional Latin Requiem Mass will be offered. Burial will take place in Gilford NH. Please go to www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the family.

Dear Fr. Bolduc, Dear Friend,
Thank you for all the years of dedication to the faithful...for all the miles you've traveled; endless hours by car; by plane through countless airports, some where even the staff knew you by name; for the states you've reached, from California to New Hampshire, from Wisconsin to the Texas border, never once taking a vacation in thirty-eight years, all to preserve the faith for traditional Catholics orphaned by the Church.
You will be remembered:
For having endured many physical calamities which beset you...an encounter with a small airplane that cut you foot terribly, a fall from the barn roof onto a concrete slab (no injuries), the horribly painful effects of Lipitor, the challenges of a colostomy and the ultimate fight with cancer which you would not win.
For appreciation of your sacred treasures, be it a chalice, missal, or even a rare collection of books...too many to list;
For serving Mass for St. Padre Pio.
For all the Masses, communions, confessions, baptisms, marriages funerals and sick calls at any time of day or night, and for all of the counseling, adoptions, prison visits, and preparations of rosary packets sent to our troops overseas. For all of the chapels you founded throughout the U.S., all while saying Mass EVERY SINGLE DAY, even while recovering from surgery in the hospital.
You have truly dedicated your life to Christ and His Church.
Through the years, the faithful have been drawn to you and your work...from the youth to the elderly, male and female alike for Mass, confession, and spiritual talks. Even rebellious teens would make their way to the line when they knew you were hearing confessions. After all, what other priest could relate to the problems of popular culture?
And then there is the farm....your beloved Sheltie, Queenie, the hundreds of turkeys you raised every year so others could delight in the savory taste of an organically raised bird for Thanksgiving, your annual Bolduc Thanksgiving feast, your stories of the buffalo, maple syrup production and canning in the summer kitchen.
The dichotomy of all of this that in the waning years of life, your preference would have been to retire to a little cabin in the woods with none of the niceties or conveniences modern society deems necessary. You would spend endless hours by candlelight consuming volumes of the written word and enjoying every minute of nature and tranquility.
But this was not to be. You were a man of God and of His Church who gave completely of himself, providing for the needs of Catholics. And this, Fr. Bolduc, dear friend, is why you were so loved and will be so missed by so many.
And for all of those whose lives you've touched, but who cannot attend your farewell, we wish you Godspeed with endless prayers, Masses, and rosaries, realizing we will NEVER know another shepherd as devoted to his flock as you.
May you enjoy your heavenly reward!

We met Fr. Bolduc in 1975 in Troy, Mich. There were 9 priest who gave talks on the Traditional Mass, and other subjects. It was Fr. Bolduc who everyone was talking about at the conference. He was truly a great speaker. So when we heard of St. Mary's and the eventual school we came.
Thank you Father for our oasis and may you R.I.P. In Jesus, Mary and Joseph..

Dear Father Bolduc -
Thank you for keeping the One True Faith and passing on what you have received to your flock. Thank you for always showing us the importance of the Sacraments, the Rosary, and being in the One True Church, "OUTSIDE OF WHICH THERE IS NO SALVATION." One cannot help being in church without hearing your voice singing, "Jesus, my Lord, my God, my ALL." Thank you, Father. In the Immaculate Heart,

Here is a poem that Father used to read at funerals. It would console us now to hear it once again, but this time, for Father. We will all miss you.

"Sleep on, beloved, sleep, and take thy rest;
Lay down thy head upon thy Saviour's Breast;
We love thee well, but JESUS loves thee best:
Good-night!
Calm is thy slumber as an infant's sleep;
But thou shalt wake no more to toil and weep;
Thine is a perfect rest, secure and deep:
Good-night!
Until the shadows from this earth are cast,
Until He gathers in His sheaves at last,
Until the twilight gloom is overpassed,
Good-night!
Until, the Lord's new glory floods the skies,
Until the loved in JESUS shall arise,
And He shall come, but not in lowly guise,
Good-night!
Until, made beautiful by Love Divine,
Thou in the likeness of thy Lord shalt shine,
And He shall bring that golden crown of thine,
Good-night!
Only "Good-night!" beloved, not "Farewell!"
A little while and all His Saints shall dwell
In hallowed union, indivisible:
Good-night!
Until we meet again before His Throne,
Clothed in the spotless robe He gives His own,
Until we know, even as we are known,
Good-night!"

We were privileged to know Father Bolduc in the early years while the SSPX was in its infancy. His legacy is huge. He laid the foundation for the SSPX in much of the U.S. He founded and named the publication of the SSPX, The Angelus. We know that because we were a part of that work. May God reward you for all of your labors, Father. We are all in your debt.

Fr Bolduc was a great man and priest, and a wonderful friend and neighbor. I had the privilege of knowing him for several years and serving Mass for him many times. We lived down the road from him in New Hampshire--He would often bring us an apple pie or vegetables from his garden. We could always count on him for ANYTHING we needed. He will be missed very much.

Your faith and example stood the test of earthly time, never waviered, never stopped, enriching the millions of souls that you have served with the gift of your preistly vocation. The Perry family from Armada MI and than St. Mary Kansas will never forget everything you have done that allowed them to be raised and taught in the old Catholic Docturine which we hold dear to us. May your soul and all the souls of the faithfull departed, though the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

Fr. Hector L. Bolduc, Founder of St. Mary's Academy & College (SMA), St. Mary's, Kansas, was a balanced, fine example of a Roman Catholic man who lived his priestly vocation in total dedication to the greater honor and glory of Almighty God, and he did so always "In Mary Immaculate." It was a privilege to serve as his personal secretary in the early 1980s. Fr. Bolduc treated everyone with dignity, respect and kindness - may the rest of us follow his example in this as well.

Dear Fr. Bolduc, You will never be replaced. All you have done for us and your insistance on doing the right thing always has inspired us forever. Keep us close to tradition always and never let us fall. Thank you for being our spiritual director for all the past 38 years. You will never be forgotten. May your replacement be as humble, as wonderful, as simple, as magnificent, as everything to all people as you were in all our needs. The Anthony Ullmer Family

Our Dear Father Bolduc, I have prayed and prayed that you would not have to suffer for a long time, you are now with God.
I will miss you so much, each time I was in the hospital and nursing homes the last three years, you would be there every day, it was the highlight of my days. No one will ever be able to take your place. You knew that I prayed for you every day and you prayed for me every day. There will never be a way to thank you for all you did, but you did know how much it meant to me.
Now your pain is gone. Some day I will be with you and with out my pain too.
Rest in peace my friend. God loves you and so do I.

Thank you dear Fr. Hector Bolduc for the dedicated and humble priestly service you provided so willingly and promptly to my dear Mother during her last days in the hospital this past May. You advised me that you were "doing your duty" but your kindness towards her will never be forgotten. You will always be in my prayers.
Eternal rest grant unto the soul of Rev. Hector Bolduc, may his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
My sincerest sympathy to Fr. Bolduc's family and to all that were blessed to know him.
Rest in peace Fr. Bolduc.
