Herbert Lax Obituary

Herbert Lax

Green Bay - Herbert C. Lax, 79, passed unexpectedly on Friday, March 2, 2018. He was born on December 21, 1938, in Green Bay to the late Herbert A. and Alice (Watzka) Lax. Herb was a graduate of Denmark High School. He enlisted with the U.S. Army shortly after graduation. After Herb's time in the military, he worked for Fort Howard Paper Company for over 40 years. Herb was an avid outdoorsman. Ice fishing, hunting, trapping, and spending time with his family were his favorite pastimes. Herb was a natural story teller, happiest when sharing humor and wisdom with his grandchildren and broad circle of family and friends. Known as the "Official Groundskeeper," he took great pride in gardening and preserving the family property.

Herb will be deeply missed by his 5 children and their mother, Tami (Jennifer) Lax, Tim (Susan) Lax, Carla (Shawn) Jodouin, Chad Lax, Tricia (Jason) Kraiss and Nancy Lax; 10 grandchildren, Dylan, Isaac, Sierra, Ethan, Zachery, Maddy, Ava, Quinn, Eli and Sam; his partner, Beverly Miller; 8 siblings, Dallan (Pat) Lax, Ronald (Pam) Lax, Eugene (Becky) Lax, Theresa Van Beek, Norma (Pat) Riley, Madonna Rychlik, Catherine Reed and Mary (Bill) Simonar; and many other family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Herb is preceded in death by a brother, Norbert (Barb) Lax; brothers-in-law, Bob Van Beek, Joe Rychlik, David Reed; and his son-in-law, Darin.

Visitation will be at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, with a Parish Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 312 Victoria St., from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Thursday, March 8, 2018. l knew herbie through his nephew Tom. We always stopped in to see him whenever we made it up north. We spent more than a few mornings at his kitchen table shooting the breeze! He told great stories and I will miss those times! He was a great guy! They don't come any better! He always made us feel welcome! I was very saddened to hear he passed!

We were saddened and stunned to hear about Herb's passing. We had just seen him a couple of summers ago when we were empting out our parent's home. He had been there with Roger Lax. Now sadly, they are both gone. Our prayers and our deepest sympathies are with all of you.
