Herbert A. Randall
1923-2010 CHESHIRE Mr. Herbert A. Randall, 86, of North State Road, Cheshire, passed on after a brief illness at home Monday, Mar. 15, 2010.
Born on Sept. 6, 1923, in Adams, son of Herbert M. Randall and Sophie Postler Randall, he attended the Adams schools and was a graduate of the former Adams High, Class of '41. While with his class, he was a member of the school band.
He enlisted in the Army Air Force Oct. 30, 1942, where he served as a bomber air sight mechanic and electronic repair. He was discharged Jan. 24, 1946 from Westover AAB.
Following his discharge, he gained employment with General Electric at their Pittsfield Plant in the Ordinance Dept., retiring from the work force in 1989.
Mr. Randall was a member of the Cheshire Fire Dept., the Methodist Church of Cheshire, and the American Legion Post # 0446. He also was an ingenious inventor, an avid camper, square dancer, gardener and bicyclist where he frequented the Ashuwillicut Trail. Traveling was a major part of his family life. He also found time to design and build a bus camper and several of their trailer campers, taking his family on yearly trips to different parts of the U.S.
He used his engineering talents to build home made solar panels to heat his home, and used carpentry skills to make replicas of his children's homes for each of his four grandchildren.
He leaves his wife, Elizabeth Scholz Randall, whom he married on Mar. 10, 1945. The couple had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary together. He also leaves three children, Charles Herbert Randall of Bradenton, Fla., Judith Randall Oleson and her husband, Einar O. Oleson, of Florida, Mass., Roger Arthur Randall and wife, Donna L. Bryant, also of Florida; and four grandchildren, Katie and Hannah Randall, and Ericka and Jan Oleson.
A son, Phillip Arthur Randall, predeceased him.
FUNERAL NOTICE: In accordance with Mr. Randall's wishes there will be no formal funeral rites.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Scholarship Fund at the Hoosac Valley High School in his memory or to the Cheshire Fire Dept. through the MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, who is in charge of arrangements.

Dear Chuck, Judy and Roger,
I just got off the phone with Mom - we went over arrangements for Dad's interment. I'm one of the contact people at the cemetery. So sad to have heard that Dad passed away, but as I said to your Mom - they had such great years together, not only being married, but being "Best Buddies". I was heartened to hear that his suffering didn't last a long time; he was able to keep celebrating life with his "best buddy"- Mom - right up to the end. Mom's loss is great, as is your own - each of you - but you all had the fortune to see them together right up to the end, without years of debilitating disease. I'll remember your Dad as one of the two who loaded their bikes on the Jeep to ride the Ashuwilticook Trail together, and celebrate and enjoy each other's presence. Dad is now at rest, and you who remain behind can bask in the memories of the wonderful time he and "Mom" spent together.
My condolences to all of you, but also, my recognition that you all had so many good years with him with you. Take some consolation knowing that Dad's LORD took him with consoling hands.
