Christoph, James

James Charles Christoph, 83, of Green Bay, was born into eternal life on March 9, 2014, overcoming a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Jim was born on June 13, 1930, in Iola, WI to Horace "Ted" and Edna (Hessleman) Christoph.

Jim graduated from Waupaca High School in 1948 and spent one year at Ripon College. He transferred to the UW-Madison School of Business. He was a member of the UW Concert and Marching Bands. Upon graduation in 1952, Jim worked at Arthur Anderson and Company, an accounting firm in Milwaukee, WI.

He served in the U.S. Army Audit Agency from November 1952 to November 1954. On August 1, 1953, Jim married Geraldine "Gerry" Barrington at the Waupaca Methodist Church. Upon discharge, he returned to Arthur Anderson.

On June 13, 1966, Jim began working for Paper Converting Machine Company of Green Bay. He retired from his position as Vice President of Administration and Finance, and Secretary in 1995.

During his career, Jim also served on the Bellin Hospital and Bellin Health Systems Board as chairman and board member for 30 years. In addition, he served on the Firstar (now US Bank) Board for 25 years. As a member of First United Methodist Church, Jim actively served on multiple church boards and committees, including Church Treasurer.

He was active in securing the future of the Bellin College of Nursing, working on their Endowment Campaign. As Treasurer, Jim helped to establish the group which founded Heritage Hill State Park. Jim worked with several community organizations, including Curative Workshop.

Jim loved his family and helping others. He also enjoyed gardening, photography, music and wood working. Summer weekends were enjoyed at the family cottage in Waupaca.

Jim is survived by Gerry, his loving wife of 60 years; his son, Richard; his daughter, Mary Christoph-Villwock; his grandsons, Matthew and David Villwock; and his great-granddaughter, Maylene. Jim's brother, John (Christel) live in Waupace. He also has 2 nieces, Cherie Christoph and Julie (James) Johnston. His cousin, Doris Sherril, resides in Atlanta, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, uncles and aunts.

Jim was a special, kindhearted person who will be deeply missed.

Friends may call at First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe St, Green Bay, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 29. A memorial service for Jim will be held at church at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Dave Wilkinson officiating. Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, the Bellin College of Nursing Scholarship Fund or Rawhide Boys Ranch.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude and appreciation to the Curative Workshop Insiders I program, the Unity Hospice Team, and the staff of Bishop's Court Memory Care Unit. Their loving concern, support, and education were truly a blessing to Jim and his family.
