James Gates Obituary
Suamico - James "Jim" M. Gates, age 63, a resident of Suamico, entered eternal life on Thursday morning, April 8, 2021 in Mesa, AZ.
Jim was born January 4, 1958 in Manitowoc. He was the son of the late Robert "Bob" and Mary Klackner Gates. Jim attended Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. He worked in Manitowoc for 10 years following high school until he moved to Green Bay to work for Paper Converting Machine Company where he remained for 35 years until his retirement in December 2020. Jim was an avid wood carver creating life like images of North American Birds and Wildlife.
He is survived by his love of 21 years Donna Reid; mother, Mary Ann Gates; sisters, Linda Gates and Tom Lehmkuhl, Green Bay, Kathy (Steven) Soukup, Sturgeon Bay; sister in law, Amy (Bob) Otten, Green Bay; nieces and nephew, Melissa (Adam) Polcen, Michael (Allison) Le, Libby Le, Rebecca (Adam) Harris, Green Bay; great nieces and nephews David and Everett, Josephine, Isabelle, and Violet, Caiden and Danielle; along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Bob" D. Gates and brother in law, Quang Trung Le.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

My dear friend and Union brother. Although Jim and I haven't spent much time together over recent years - we have met on occasion - breaking bread over a dinner or two. Talking stupid after a few drinks - yukking it up over work stuff or whatever. But that wasn't who Jim was.
Jim was a very caring and gentle man - reflected in his art, his detail and his love for nature. He was a very gentle spirit and will be sadly missed.

My deepest sympathy to Jim’s family. Jim and my late brother, Gary, were friends. Jim carved the most beautiful duck for him while he was sick, back in the 90’s. It’s still on the mantle in our cottage where it will stay now in memory of both of them. I am so sorry for your loss.

My sympathy to you Donna and the rest of Jim's family. Jim was a classmate of mine. He was kind of quiet in high school and I didn't really get to know him well, but I have met him a number of times since... mainly at class reunions. I had some really nice conversations with him. Very nice guy.
