Marilyn McCullough Obituary

Marilyn J. McCullough

Mishicot - Marilyn J. McCullough, age 72, current Mishicot resident, died peacefully early Saturday morning, January 19, 2019 at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers, surrounded by her loving family.

Marilyn was born in Kewanee, Illinois on April 18, 1946 to John H. and Lauretta M. (Tietz) Zonkel. She was a graduate of Wethersfield High School in Kewanee, and also attended the University of Illinois. Marilyn later attained her Certified Medical Assistant Degree from Northeast Technical College in Green Bay. She was employed at Urological Surgeons of Green Bay for a number of years, and later worked as a certified medical assistant at the Aurora Two Rivers Clinic until her retirement. On November 28, 1965, she married Dennis C. McCullough in Kewanee, Illinois.

Marilyn lived her life with adventure, enthusiasm, and a wonderful sense of humor. Her smile lit up a room. She was a true outdoors person. Having lived on the shores of Lake Michigan for many years (her favorite spot), she loved spending time on the beach, being out in the beautiful sunshine, and gardening. Marilyn loved to rescue animals and loved ALL of God's creatures, and had a special place in her heart for her cats. Marilyn and Denny are longtime members of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ in Two Rivers. Over the years, Marilyn served on several committees at Grace Church; she loved to sing and was a member of the church choir. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the years with her husband.

She is survived by her husband, Denny; three children: Michael (Nikki) McCullough of St. Paul, MN, Michelle (John) Goode of Edmonton, Canada, and Cory McCullough of Mishicot; five grandchildren: Quinn, Nolan, and Aidan McCullough; Madison and Shane Goode. She is further survived by a brother-in-law, Bruce (Sue) McCullough of Ft. Myers, Florida; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a stillborn daughter, Carey Lynn; one brother & sister-in-law, Barry (Sharon) Zonkel; and her mother & father-in-law, Darlene and Charles McCullough.

A private celebration of life will be held at a future date. Cremation has taken place.

Memorials donated in Marilyn's name will be directed to the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home of Mishicot is assisting the McCullough family with funeral arrangements.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Diaz and staff; Dr. Knapp and the Bellin Rehab staff; Dr. Andrew Yetter and staff of the Vince Lombardi Aurora Cancer Center; the caregivers of Aurora at Home & Hospice Care; and the Aurora Neurology Group for the compassion and wonderful care given to our dear wife, mother, and grandmother throughout her illness.

Dear Dennis & family,
We were saddened to learn of Marilyn's passing. We have fond memories of her years in the choir at De Pere Presbyterian Church. With her lovely voice and sweet disposition, we all enjoyed our times togetherwith laughter, praise & song. We remember the kids from their days at Edison.
Our deepest sympathy for all of you.

Denny, I am so sorry to hear about Marilyn's passing. She was such a wonderful person and mentor to my mother and father Carol and Bill Brault, during Mom's illnesses. I am so glad that Marilyn and you were one of their former neighbors and Dad's golfing buddy. Dad always looked forward to your luncheon meetings. It was so nice to visit your beautiful home on the lake with them. How ironic that Mom and Dad both passed on January 17. Mom in 2006 and Dad in 2012.

I will keep you and your family in prayer.

Denny and family
I want you to know that I loved working with Marilyn all those years, snuggled together in Dr Thayers small office. She was so sweet, funny, kind and smart. I considered myself to be so fortunate to have been her co worker. She was always optimistic, and never complained about anything, even tho she had some major medical issues.
She and I also shared a love of cats, young or old, tame or wild, She was the best.
I wish I had known she was so sick. I am so sorry I wasn't a help to her and you.
Sincerely,
Karen Schroeder

Denny and Family,
You have our deepest sympathy for your loss. I didn't know Marilyn that well as she was younger than me and we didn't have any classes together at WHS but I remember she always had a smile on her face. Your were one of my favorite freshman, Denny, when I was a senior and we had a fun time in Mrs. Copland's French I class. Take care.!!

Denny and Family we were so sorry to hear of Marilyn's death. She was a wonderful lady. We, as well as all the little kids in the neighborhood really appreciated Marilyn when she would come over and watch the kids so they could all swim when we were not home. I know she gave many of her afternoons for these youngsters. We always enjoyed having you for neighbors on Whitney Av in Kewanee. You are in our Prayers. Sincerely Dick, Carolyn, Mark and Jim Anderson.
