Mark Silverberg Obituary

Silverberg, Mark

Mark Silverberg, 63, Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, after a courageous 6-year battle with cancer. He was born on December 31, 1953, in Minneapolis, MN, to the late Friedolf and Grace Silverberg. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis in 1972 and received his BA in music from the University of Minnesota in 1978. Mark sang with the Minnesota Opera Company and worked in theatre in the Twin Cities before moving to New York City in 1982, to pursue a career in musical theatre and opera. To support his passion, Mark worked many positions in the food industry, showing an aptitude for cooking. He also worked as a Manager of Special Events for Macy's Herald Square, particularly enjoying his work with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and Santaland. Mark met his first real love, Mary Ehlinger, while working on a show and they were married on December 3, 1988, at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis. They started their family in New York and traveled often for their musical careers before moving to Green Bay in 2009. While living in Green Bay Mark worked as a voice teacher, performed in local theatre productions and founded Play-by-Play Theatre. Mark found joy in cooking and entertaining, seizing any opportunity he could to gather friends and family. He had a deep-rooted passion for singing. Mark also enjoyed trivia, once auditioning for Jeopardy, watching the Vikings, and going to the family cottage to "eat and sleep".

Mark's singing and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary; children, Carolyn and Matthew Silverberg; brothers, Jon (Linda) Silverberg and Terry (Jennie) Silverberg; and many other family, friends and lives touched.

Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Ashland Ave., from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. The Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Church with Rev. Randy Argall officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at www.Prokowall.com.

Mark's family would like to thank Dr. Nancy Davis at Aurora, his caretakers at ManorCare East and Katie Maloney.

Mark's passing is a tremendous loss to the theater community in our area. He was a fabulous performer and teacher. It's an even greater loss to his many friends, and his wonderful family. We will miss him, but he will be with us in our hearts forever.
