Michael Blindauer Obituary

Blindauer, Michael A. "Iron Mike"

Michael A. "Iron Mike" Blindauer, 76, Green Bay, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015. He was born on December 5, 1938 in Green Bay to Howard and Dorothy (Mazurek) Blindauer. Mike graduated from Premontre High School. On June 4, 1960, he married Sharon Lee Kampo and together they had five children.

Mike was the owner and operator of Blindauer Sheet Metal and Roofing, Inc. Prior to that, he worked as an engineer at Green Bay & Western Railroad. He was a longtime member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Parish, the Brown County Home Builders Association, Martha's Coffee Club, and Western Racquet Club.

For Mike, the most important things in life were; God, his mother, his work, his dog "Lucy", his wife, and his family. His life motto was "Work hard, play hard." Mike was known as "Mr. Fix-It" who generously offered his time to anyone who asked. He was a very outgoing and friendly guy. Mike loved his friends, playing tennis, golfing, snow skiing, water skiing, and watching the Packers. His greatest joy was spending time at the cottage with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children and their spouses, Jo Anne and Dean Englebert, Michelle and Jay Kassha, Lisa and Bart Fletcher, Beth and Stephen Verrette, Lamar and Angie Blindauer; his grandchildren, Melody (Josh), Kristie (Avery), Taylor (and special friend Taylor), Rachel, Isabella, Alex, Sydney, Madi, Levi, Lexi, Lily, Brandon, Jared; his great-grandchildren, Azure, Kalie, Casten, Timothy; his brother and sister, Jerome Blindauer, Rita Jansen; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy Herman, Susie and Tom Sauerissig; many nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many special friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Lou Ann and Larry Gerroll; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry Jansen, Jim Herman, Gloria Blindauer. (It is not the years in your life that count; it's the life in the years.)

Friends may call at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida Street, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday, September 24. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of floral expressions, a memorial fund has been established in Mike's name.

Mike's family extends a sincere word of thanks to the caring staffs of Unity Hospice, Bellin Hospital 8th Floor, Woodside Lutheran Nursing Home, and to all the amazing friends who gave their support and help.

God's garden must be beautiful,

He always takes the best.

He knew you were suffering,

He knew you were in pain,

He knew that you would never,

Get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough,

And the hills were hard to climb.

So He closed your weary eyelids, and

Whispered, "Peace be thine."

It broke our hearts to lose you,

But you didn't go alone

For part of us went with you

The day God called you home.

My deepest sympathy to the Blindauer family. Driving home from Sheboygan one day (years ago) our car broke down and we were stranded. My husband, son, and I began walking to the next exit. Mike saw us walking and gave us a ride. I said the next gas station would be fine, but he was extremely generous and drove us all the way to our home in De Pere. He even gave us his business card after learning my husband was out of work at the time. I never forgot that all these years!

I interviewed Mike about six months ago for my forthcoming book. He was very helpful providing information about his Dad and Vince Lombardi, etc. He was kind to me, and my guess is that kindness flowed from him during his entire life. My best wishes to his family.

We saw Mike almost every weekday noon at Bay Family Restaurant for many, many years. We usually exchanged a few words and always enjoyed his friendliness, humor, and his annual Packers Football Schedules. Most days he was joined by one or two or more family members and over the years we watched his wife, children, and then his grandchildren, enjoy lunching with him. Our deepest sympathy go out to the entire Blindauer family. Mike was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
