XENIA — Betty Frances Crossman, 87 passed away Tuesday December 23rd in Xenia, Ohio. Born November 16, 1927 in Auburn, Maine to parents Gerald and Margaret Varnum. The oldest of three children, Jane LaFontaine and Gerald Varnum. Proceeded in death by husband Roy Crossman. Betty is survived by her two children Tim Crossman (Renee` Crossman) and Mary Locke (Wil Locke). Eight grandchildren: Matt Gnau (Joany Gnau), Michelle Gnau (Brian Wiebe), Gabriel Crossman (Maria Crossman), Marianne Crossman, Rebecca Crossman, Eva Crossman, Nathaniel Crossman, and Brian Crossman. As well as five great grandchildren: Bruce Crossman, Roy Crossman, Kaleigh Crossman, Conor Gary Crossman, and Adrian Crossman. Betty was married for 49 years to her childhood sweetheart, Roy, until his passing in 2001. She was an Air Force wife and moved numerous times in Roy's career. She made many places home including 9 states, Puerto Rico, Japan, and the Philippines, but through out it all her heart remained in Maine where she and Roy grew up. Betty was a very active volunteer with church, military family services, her children's schools, and scouts. Betty was affectionately known as Grammy by her grandchildren and their friends. Small but mighty, Grammy gave everyone big hugs, and, if you were lucky, some of her best ginger snaps or snickerdoodles. Grammy lived her last few years with dementia, but she was blessed to have her family to help her remain in her home. A Celebration of Life will be held 10 AM Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Eleazer United Methodist Church, 1765 E. Spring Valley Paintersville Rd. Xenia, with Pastor John Beer officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either of her favorite charities: Xenia FISH Food Pantry, or the Interfaith Hospitality, or to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.mccolaughfuneralhome.com. McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc., 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia.
