Daniel Perry Obituary

FAIRBORN — Daniel E. Perry, Jr., age 84 of Fairborn, passed away on August 12, 2015 at his residence. He was born September 8, 1930 in Westerville, OH, the son of the late Daniel E., Sr. and Erma (Pritchard) Perry. On June 4, 1950 he married Jeanne L. Fuller, his high school sweetheart, who preceded him in death in March of 2015. They were married two months shy of 65 years. Dan was a 1948 graduate of Westerville, OH High School and he briefly attended The Ohio State University before enlisting in the Ohio National Guard. He was soon deployed to Korea and ended up serving his state and country for over 25 years, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. Dan and Jeanne had four children, Steven, Rebecca, Thomas, and Michael; nine grandchildren, Jacob, William, Shelby, Kylie, Jessica, Nicholas, Jennifer, Chris, and Andrew; and two great-grandchildren, Kaela and Maddox. Dan was a salesman for most of his life who sold building materials to lumber yards and hardware stores before the big superstores of today. He later was employed with Otis Wright Trucking in Lima, Ohio, as a truck driver, dispatcher and safety coordinator. His memberships included the American Legion Post #96, VFW Post #1275, Lima, Ohio and he was a 32nd degree Mason, affiliated with Antioch Shrine Lodge #631, Dublin, Ohio. He was a past president of the Shriner's seniors in 2008 and worked many circuses and did much volunteer work for them. Dan and Jeanne moved to Fairborn, Ohio in 2003 from Lima, where they had lived in Ft. Shawnee since 1964. They attended Shawnee Methodist Church there. He was a big Ohio State fan, having worked as a volunteer usher at the Horseshoe as a Boy Scout in the '40's. He also enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds on TV with Jeanne and tending his roses. A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 12, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Byron Church, 3230 Trebein Rd., Fairborn, where Dan and Jeanne were members. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Byron Church. Arrangements in care of Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, Fairborn. Condolences may be made to the family at www.BeltonStroup.com.

Dan and Jeannie will always hold a special place in the memory of our family. They showed such an interest in our daughter, and genuine concern for our family. We looked forward to drinking coffee and spending time with them after Church. We knew we could always get a laugh from the two of them. It was sweet to see them interact as a couple. Sorry to hear about your loss. It makes me appreciate still having my Dad. He is 89 and my Mom died of cancer in 1993. He has remarried a real nice lady and they live together in an independent living apartment that has 24/7 medical staff at all times. I am thinking of you and your family and hope good memories get you through this.
