Helen Stephens Obituary

XENIA — Helen Grey Stephens, age 87, of Xenia passed away August 1, 2017 in Xenia, Ohio. Helen was born October 11, 1929 in Ashland, KY the daughter of the late Walter and Winifred "Winnie" Adams Lemaster. Along with her parents Helen is preceded in death by her loving husband: Karl Stephens and a brother: Sam Lemaster. Helen is survived by her daughter: Linda Gayle McDowell (Gary) of Dayton; son: Craig Stephens of Xenia; sister: Magdalene Riggsby of Xenia, Betty Uhl (Wilbert) of Florida, Mary Mitchell (Walker) of Cedarville, Evelyn Mash (Blan) of Xenia, Joyce Bailey of South Charleston, Lois Jacobs (Gary) of Cedarville and Karen Sue Barcelo (Bruce) of Xenia. Helen is also survived by a sister-in-law: DeLora Lemaster; grandchildren: Shawn McDowell (Kristen) of Vandalia, Michele Cutting (Ben) of Bellbrook and Scott McDowell (Heather) of Centerville; great-grandchildren: Connor, Lauren, Jillian, Caroline, Catherine, Spencer, Ian McDowell, Claire and Anna Cutting and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Helen had the gift of hospitality, enjoying being a hostess, entertaining and cooking for college professors and students who were unable to travel home for the holidays. Helen was active in her church attendance when her health permitted. Helen was an avid reader and loved her books but most of all Helen loved her family and will be greatly missed by all. Graveside services will be held privately by the family. Services are in care of McColaugh Funeral Home 826 N. Detroit St. Xenia, Ohio 45385.
