FAIRBORN — John I. Spicuzza, Sr., age 89 of Fairborn, passed away February 19, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 29, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of the late Antonino and Josephine (Billante) Spicuzza. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War; and followed with employment at Chrysler until his retirement. He was a longtime member of Mary, Help of Christians Church; American Legion Post 526; and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He enjoyed watching western movies and the Cincinnati Bengals, listening to Frank Sinatra, and playing the lottery. John was inducted into the Wrestling Referee Hall of Fame in 2000. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Jaime; two brothers, Joe Spicuzza and Anthony Spicuzza; and son-in-law, Rex Willett. John is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Helen; son, John Jr. (Beth) Spicuzza; 7 daughters, Deborah Willett, Kathleen Spicuzza, Sandra (Bart) Chess, Patricia (Ray) Marcano, Brenda Spicuzza, Mary (Paul) Lanese, Michelle (James) Kennedy); 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Spicuzza; as well as many extended family and friends. The family would like to thank all the homecare givers; and Soin Hospital ER and ICU staff for the care John received. A visitation will be held on Monday February 27, 2023 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday February 28, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Mary, Help of Christians Church, 954 N. Maple Ave., Fairborn, Father Ambrose Dobrozsi celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow at Fairfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's in memory of John.
