XENIA — Richard "Dick" E. Baker, 83, of Xenia, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025. He was born April 11, 1942, in Xenia, the son of Ted and Edna Chambliss Baker. Dick devoted his life to service by beginning his fire career as a volunteer at Spring Valley Township Fire Department from 1963-1966, until he became a full-time firefighter/EMT at the City of Xenia, serving until 1991. During this time, he also served as a volunteer and part-time member of the Xenia Township Fire Department from 1971-2012, ultimately reaching the rank of assistant chief. He enjoyed becoming an instructor and facilitator of Greene County area firefighters. His second love, as we all know, was racing, sporting the number 51, to match his fire engine. Through the years he met and made long-time friendships. He is survived by his son Roger (Heidi) Baker, grandchildren Cameron, Bailey, Lauren, and Chase Baker, sister-in-law Nancy Baker, several nieces and nephews, Tonya Hoskins, and many close friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, whom he married on September 27, 1963, son Michael Baker, brother Elwood Baker, sister-in-law Sharon Camden, brothers-in-law Jerry Sieber, Dutch Camden, and Ralph Koogler, and by a nephew, James Baker. Special thanks to Bobby and Debbie King and John and Tina Blocher for whom he cherished their special friendships. Visitation will be held from 10am-12pm Friday, October 31, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia with a short service to follow. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Xenia Township Fire Department, 8 Brush Row Rd, Xenia, OH, 45385, in his memory. Sorry for your loss, as a young fireman Chief Baker provided me with several tips and tricks to the job that I still use to this day. His knowledge was invaluable.
