Bernard Scott Gritzmaker, 61, passed away Thursday peacefully in his sleep at home.
Born on July 8, 1964, in Grand Rapids, MI, to Bernie and Bonnie Gritzmaker, Scott lived a life filled with love, laughter, and deep faith.
Scott was married to the love of his life, Mary Beth DeVan, on September 20, 1986. Together, they raised two sons, Joshua Scott Gritzmaker and Zachary Earl Gritzmaker. Scott was a proud and adoring grandfather to Jager Bernard Gritzmaker and Rayna Sue Gritzmaker. He was also deeply devoted to his siblings, Squeak (Joey) Spencer, Cory (Connie) Gritzmaker, and Benjamin (Maya)
Gritzmaker, as well as his many nieces and nephews, with a special bond to his niece, Kambrai Spencer, whom he lovingly regarded as the daughter he never had.
Scott was a beloved member of Freedom Fellowship Church, where he cherished the fellowship of friends and the sense of community that the church provided.
A man of many passions, Scott loved the Chicago Bears, enjoyed fishing, and spent countless hours working on and cruising in his cherished Corvette.
However, above all, it was his family that mattered most to him. He found great joy in spending time with his loved ones and took immense pride in his role as a grandfather. His warmth, wit, and humor brought joy to all who knew him, and his unwavering faith was central to his life.
His kindness, generosity, and genuine spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Bonnie Gritzmaker, and his sister, Tami Gritzmaker.
A celebration of Scott's life will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at Freedom Fellowship Church in Greeneville.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the church or to a charity of the donor's choice in Scott's memory.
Scott will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, his deep love for his family, and his unwavering faith. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
