Bill Cutshaw Obituary

Bill W. Cutshaw

Bill W. Cutshaw, age 87, of Afton, TN passed away at his home on August 20, 2025 following a brief illness. His Christian faith sustained and guided him throughout his earthly life and into eternity.

Those who knew him will miss his smiling face, helpful and generous nature, and his inquisitive and fun-loving spirit. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, regardless of station in life, with questions and genuine interest. He enjoyed opportunities presented to mentor and offer guidance when young entrepreneurs sought his counsel.

From an early age, Bill exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit. Following a stint in the U.S. Army and after graduating from ETSU, this spirit led him on a career path in various capacities over the years, culminating in a focus locally on real estate development with his partner, John R. Walker. This alliance resulted in the development of two local condominium complexes, Park Place and Tusculum Oaks and numerous office buildings throughout Greeneville.

Bill is survived by his wife of 31 years, Rebecca O. Cutshaw, a daughter, Hilary Porta (Ian Moore), and three grandsons: Joshua Cutshaw, Hampton Porta and Graham Porta. Additional surviving family members include his brother-in-law (Toddy Laws), a sister-in- law (Connie Gaby) and former sister-in-law (Cindy Jaggers). His nieces and nephews include Ceth Smith, Guss Laws, Cathy Franklin, Debbie McAmis, Cindy Schler, Zach Jaggers, Hannah Morris, Joshua Smith, Matthew Smith, Rebekah Hawkins and Benjamin Gaby. Numerous cousins also survive him including Anne Mason and Dr Chris Brooks (Mari).

Preceding him in death was a son (Alex Cutshaw), his parents (J.P and Beatrice Cutshaw), a brother (Jimmy Gray Cutshaw,) two nephews (Corky Cutshaw and Matthew Jaggers) and sister-in-law (Gayle Laws).

The family expresses their grateful appreciation to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their care and support.

There will be no formal service or visitation at this time but a Gathering of Family and Friends will be announced later. Those wishing to honor Bill's memory are asked to consider a donation to a charity of your choice or The Gideon's International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800. Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service are in charge of the arrangements.

I have known this family since my family moved to Greeneville in the 60's. My father, George (g b) Alley worked for bill's dad for a number of years. May the family find peace in the coming days.
