Edward Mysinger Obituary

Edward Mysinger

Born: June 4, 1932 | Died: September 26, 2025

Mysinger, Edward Douglas "Doug" - age 93 of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at Ben Atchley Veterans' home surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He was born on June 4, 1932, to Edward Blaine and Willie Kate (Davis) Mysinger in Greene County, Tennessee. Douglas grew up on a farm in Greeneville where he developed a strong work ethic. After graduating from Greeneville High School in 1951, he attended The University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he received a BS and a MS degree in Civil Engineering. In 1957, he served as an officer in the United States Navy for three years on active duty. While serving in Parris Island, SC, he helped design the Marine Corps Boot Camp obstacle course and redesigned the mail delivery system on base. He remained in the Navy Reserves until he retired as a Commander in 1992. He worked as an engineer for the Tennessee Valley Authority for 32 years and taught engineering courses at The University of Tennessee and Pellissippi State Community College.

Doug loved spending time with his family, watching UT sports, and working on the family farm in Greeneville. His granddaughter Ella, who is a Junior at Emory University in Atlanta, was his pride and joy. He greatly enjoyed visiting with her in person or on Facetime.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Blaine and Willie Kate Mysinger and his brother, Bobby Mysinger. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Mary Ann; son, Mike (wife Stacey); granddaughter, Ella; sister-in-law Bonnie, Mysinger; and nephew, Jason Mysinger.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Amedisys Hospice and to all of the caregivers and nurses in their home and at Ben Atchley Veterans Home.

Doug has chosen to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, Doug has asked that donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.

Family and friends will celebrate his life on October 17, 2025. A visitation will be held from 6:00pm-7:00pm. A service will follow immediately with Mark Moreland officiating.
