Gary Lyn Gridley, 76, passed away at his home surrounded by his family, he went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 20, 2025, after a year and half battle with liver cancer.
Gary was a 1967 graduate of South Greene High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy in Vietnam aboard the USS Excel MSO-439, as an engineman. He retired from Ryder Transportation after 35 plus years.
Gary was a member of United Baptist Church where he served as deacon, usher and trustee at various times until his health declined. He loved worshipping and serving the Lord.
Gary is survived by his loving wife and best friend Frances Gridley of 56 years. He is also survived by his special children who called each and every day: Valerie and Joe Gonzalez and Brian and Natasha Gridley; his special grandchildren: Cody and Kacie Shipley, Benjamin and Brooke Gridley and Mylee Gonzalez and his great grandchildren: Huxlei Shipley, Wyatt Gridley, Bryer Shipley and soon to be Kasen Gridley. He is also survived by his sister: Dolores Foshie; niece: Jada and Brad Sauceman and their family; nephews: Stewart and Beth Foshie and their family, Jason and Kari Foshie and their family; several special cousins and friends, especially Nathan Bachman.
Gary was preceded in death by his very special granddaughter: Alex McKay Gridley. He is also preceded in death by his parents: Ted and Susan Gridley; mother and father-in-law, aunts, uncles and cousins; sister-in-law: Janice Wilhoit; brothers-in-law: Kenneth Sexton and Leonard Brooks and special friends: Harold T "Butch" Hicks, Claude Vaughn, Gene Shelton, Lowell Hensley, Bill Bryson and Freddie Fillers.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Veterans Hospital Radiology Special Procedures Department and Genise Irick and the GI Department for excellent care and Smokey Mountain Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 5-7 pm Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Jeff Morgan and Cody Shipley officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home Saturday at 10:15 am to go in procession to the cemetery. The Greene County Honor Guard and Navy Honors will be in charge of the military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be: Brian Gridley, Joe Gonzalez, Cody Shipley, Benjamin Gridley, Stewart Foshie, Jason Foshie, Michael Lane and Denny Hopson.
Honorary pallbearer will be Brad Sauceman.
