Georgia Helen McCurry Woolsey

1925 - 2024

Georgia Helen McCurry Woolsey, of Lost Mountain, born Dec. 18, 1925, passed away Jan. 2 at Ballad Community Hospital in Greeneville.

She had a short stay at Life Care Center of Greeneville and had been under the care of her family at home and in the Atlanta area for more than 10 years. The family expresses their appreciation for the care she received from special doctors and nurses in Greeneville and Atlanta.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents: Bertie Holland "Papa" and Maudie "Mama Maude"; and three sisters and one brother: Stella Neal, Edna Lucas, Grace Jones, and Ray Holland.

Survivors include Bill and Sue Woolsey, Tommy Woolsey and Margaret Fernandez, Ronnie and Lois McCurry, Phil and Heidi McCurry; grandchildren: Gina Woolsey, John Woolsey, Gregg McCurry, Ginger Fernandez, Chuck McCurry, and Niki and Chris Cline; nieces and nephews: Nancy Bolton, Jerome Woolsey, Janice Neal, Connie Holland, Ray Holland, and June Smith. These and many other friends and family affectionately called her Maw, Mema, or Aunt Helen due to their close and loving relationship.

Helen was a devout Christian and a member of the New Lebanon Baptist Church where she attended regularly whenever possible. At 98 years old and increasingly ill over the last several months, she had said that she was ready to go meet the Lord and hoped that her beloved "Papa" would come get her and take her home to Heaven. We can all celebrate that she will no longer have sickness or pain and is now with her God and loved ones that have gone on before her.

Helen was married to her high school sweetheart John Taylor Woolsey of the Lost Mountain Community for 54 years where she raised her family and helped with the farm. After his death she married Charles E. McCurry of Romeo and had nearly 10 years with Charles where she enjoyed farming and line dancing until his passing.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend and was always willing and able to lend a helping hand. She had even delivered a baby for her neighbor in an emergency circumstance. Helen was full of love for those that knew her, a hard worker, full of fun, and lit up the room with her vivacious personality.

Helen loved many and was loved by many. She blessed all that knew her with her love and friendship and always felt blessed by them. She will be missed by her family and friends but has left great memories from one of the "greatest generation".

The funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, 10150 Horton Highway, Greeneville. The service will include a viewing from 1-2 p.m. at the church.

A graveside service immediately thereafter in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Jacob Wright, Scott Jones, Tucker Suggs, Brad Loftis, Gregg McCurry, and Alan Gass.
