Joan Baskette

Joan Elizabeth Wills Baskette, 91 years of age, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 8, 2025. She was born at home in Chuckey, TN to Edgar S. Wills and Velva Depew Wills.

She was a member of Rheatown Community Church (formerly Albright United Methodist Church). She and her husband Don were owners of Baskette Grocery of the Clearsprings Community for several years following her retirement from Magnavox where she worked for 37 and 1/2 years. Joan was proud of her family, a host of friends and her community, she was always anxious to share conversations with others. She and Don were fans of the Chuckey-Doak Black Knights, Greeneville Astros, and Greeneville Greene Devils, and were a familiar face in the crowd at many community functions and local auctions.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband: Donald "Don" V. Baskette, who passed away August 16, 2016; parents: Edgar S. Wills and Velva Depew Wills; sister: Mary Ellen Wills; and 3 infant siblings; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Thomas Earl Baskette and Roda Carder Baskette.

She is survived by her daughter: Donna Baskette of Telford, TN; son: Richard (Darlene) Baskette of Limestone, TN; grandchild: Ryan Wesley Baskette (Beth Anne); great granddaughter: Madeline Joan Baskette; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a special friend: Connie Williams.

The family will receive friends Thursday 1-2 pm at Jeffers Funeral Service at Afton. The funeral will follow in the chapel with Rev. Vivan Franklin officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Baskette, Brad Johnson, David Depew, Jeff Sams, James Jeffers, and Mark Adcox.

Honorary pallbearers are: David Depew, Dennis Depew, Roger Depew, C.W. Baskette, Jerry Baskette, Bill Grindstead, Jim Lane, Jim Spurell, Jeff Cain, Steven Sams, Dewayne Stanton, Rick Baskette, and Chris Smith.
