Maxine H. Proffitt, age 89, of the Newmansville Community, died Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Greeneville Community Hospital.
Mrs. Proffitt was born and raised on Doak Hensley Road. She retired from Greene Valley Developmental Center after 30 years of service. Maxine was member of Oakdale Missionary Baptist Church and attended Jearoldstown United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Survivors include her children, Randy Harrison (Sherry), Cindy Thornburg (Ricky), Pam Charlton (Jeff), and Jeffrey Harrison; special grandson and caregiver, Hunter Harrison; grandchildren, Eric Pierce, Keith Harrison, Jessica Brown, Brittni Thornburg and Heath Charlton (Hayley); 11 great-grandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; and special friends, Edna Payne, Velma Gregg and Zelma Hicks.
Mrs. Proffitt was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Proffitt; parents, Doak and Effie Hensley; and a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Jean and Gary Pierce.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Saturday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel with Pastor Brian Larsen Wells officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Eric Pierce, Keith Harrison, Cole Henry, Jonathan Harrison, Heath Charlton, Bronson Necessary, Adian Thornburg and Dominic Thornburg.
Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
