Patricia Russell Obituary

Patricia Hasen Russell

Born: February 23, 1952 | Died: August 9, 2025

Patricia (Tricia) Hasen Russell passed away on Saturday, August 9, after a wonderful life and a brief battle with cancer.

Her beautiful, calm countenance, infectious humor, obvious artistic talent and kind nature always brought great joy wherever she was.

Tricia was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated from Memphis Central High School and went on to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she earned a BFA in studio art and met Mark Russell. They married in 1975 and eventually settled on his family farmland in Greeneville, Tennessee. Tricia delighted in creating a beautiful home and natural gardens, and she was the preferred human of every pet and animal on the farm. In 1981, she and Mark welcomed their daughter, Audrey.

Throughout her life, Tricia dedicated herself to the visual arts, supporting creativity and local arts endeavors. She was the business side of Mark Russell Glassworks and the Firehall Glass Studio, where she occasionally assisted in the glass studio, traveled to craft fairs, worked at their co-op gallery Art Space 4, and handled studio finances.

An artist herself, Tricia's confident hand was evident in her drawings and watercolor paintings from life, as well as in her teaching. Her special gift with children shone brightly through her work with ArtQuest, an after-school art program. For many years, Tricia's encouragement and guidance enabled many kids to pursue their own artistic passions.

In recent years, Tricia and Mark purchased a city home in Utica, New York, to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Over the last four years, they enjoyed this new adventure together.

Mark and Tricia worked hard, traveled often, and spoke daily even when apart. They were a loving team in both marriage and parenting, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in May of this year with a trip to one of their favorite beaches, Folly Beach, South Carolina.

Tricia is deeply mourned and forever celebrated by her husband, Mark Russell Jr.; daughter, Audrey Hasen Taylor (Jon); grandchildren, Harlan and Asa Taylor; brother, Dr. Howard Hasen Jr. (Janis); nieces, Katherine Le Denmant (Benoit) and Whitney Ramos (Reinaldo); nephew, Hunter Hasen (Lisa); her extended family; and all those she considered friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Cornelia Pierce Hasen, and father, Dr. Howard B. Hasen Sr.

Mark and Audrey would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the team at Utica's Wynn Hospital, especially the eighth floor, for their knowledge, kindness, and comfort during Tricia's final weeks.

A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 19 at the Firehall Glass studio in Greeneville, Tennessee.
