Roy Lee Chapman, 100, of Greeneville, passed away Wednesday evening at Signature HealthCARE Center.
He was a veteran of World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy.
He retired as a livestock inspector for the state of Tennessee. He was a businessman, a lifelong farmer, and a great example for the family to be hardworking and driven to be successful.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Linda and Don McNeese; grandchildren: Laura Wilcox McNeese and Mike, Clinton Wilcox and his children, Kayla, Luke, and Lyla Wilcox, and Angela Dickerson and her children, Brandon Gregg, Josh Gregg, and Matthew Dickerson; several great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Mike Chapman and Bill Chapman; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years: Ruth Francis Chapman; a son: Larry Chapman; a daughter: Patricia Chapman; a grandson: Jeff Chapman; and brothers and sisters: C.W. "Buddy" Chapman, Freida Woods, Louise Oliver, Willie Jo Montogomery, Shirley McCracken, Carolyn Sekeller, Jean Harr, Ronnie Chapman, Evie Chapman, Patsy Mink, and Edna Krautsh.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, Afton chapel. The memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. in Jeffers Afton Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Wisecarver officiating.
He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Graceland Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in Mr. Chapman's memory.
