Sterling Nelson Obituary

Reverend Sterling Daniel Nelson, 87, of Hopkins, MN, formerly of Dandridge, TN, died on July 16 in Hopkins. Prior to his retirement from more than 50 years in ministry, he served numerous churches in the East Tennessee region including Sinking Springs Lutheran Church in Midway, and most recently Solomon Lutheran Church in the South Greene community where he served until his retirement.

Sterling will be remembered for his larger than life personality and great love of all people.

He was the son of Ruby P. and Rev. Ralph A. Nelson. Additionally, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Hubert Nelson; and grandson, Wyatt M. Olig.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Patricia M. Nelson; children, Randal S. (Pam) Nelson, Susan K. Nelson, Katherine S. (Chris) Olig, and Robert S. Nelson; step-children, Tammy Wyche, Rick (Kim) Nelson, and Craig (April) Nelson; sister, Celeste (Jim) Gibson; brother, Rev. Victor Nelson; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. at Solomon Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The Rev. Sonya Solomon will be officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service and following the burial at the church.
