Wallace DeWitt Thomas, 91, passed away Friday afternoon at his home in Mosheim.
DeWitt was born March 9, 1932, and raised in Madison County, North Carolina, before settling in Greene County with his lifelong love, companion, best friend and wife of 65 years, Peggy June Thomas, who passed away in 2020.
A man who was no stranger to hard work and loyalty, DeWitt joined the workforce immediately following his time in the U.S. Army and was a longtime employee of TRW in Greeneville before his retirement.
DeWitt was a proud member of The Scottish Rite of Masons for many years.
He and his wife, Peggy, were establishing members of West Greene Free Will Baptist Church and later attended First Church of God as long as their health permitted.
DeWitt was a beloved member of his family, church and community. Joyfully bringing smiles to others faces, whether friend, family or stranger was one of his greatest sources of delight and happiness. So many will miss his laugh, his humor and his contagious smile.
Survivors include grandchildren: Lincoln and Natalie Thomas, Thornton and Kayla Miller, and Holden Miller; four great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Emory, Jeremiah, and Ellis Ruth Thomas; special family members: Gerald and Rebecca Roberts-Miller; his guardian angel and caregiver over the past 4 years: Crystal Vandiver; many nieces and nephews; several cousins; and other close family.
