JoAnn Hoagland Obituary

JoAnn (Jennett) Hoagland, Greenfield, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the young age of 90. JoAnn was born on May 26, 1935, in Indianapolis to parents Paul Edgar and Mary Laveta (Mattingly) Jennett. She married the love of her life, Robert Hoagland, on July 20, 1957.

JoAnn attended schools in Indianapolis before attending St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, St. John Academy, and Indiana Central Business College, obtaining her business degree.

JoAnn's first love in life was Christ. She attended St. John Catholic, Little Flower, and St. Michael Catholic. Every opportunity she had she was spreading God's love and word. JoAnn's second love in life was for her family. She fiercely loved her husband Robert, children, grandchildren, and friends. She spent many occasions with her loved ones through food and fellowship, travels, and religious gatherings. JoAnn's hobbies were endless, but included: playing the piano, participating with Red Hat Society, listening to music, composing written works of art in the form of published poems and articles, camping with family, visiting the cabin on the river with family, traveling the world with Robert, completing puzzles, dabbling in arts & crafts, and watching the Colts & Notre Dame football. She loved dogs. She had beautiful handwriting. She dressed to the nine's, never amiss without her jewelry balls and cosmetics complete. As age crept forward and she was needing additional assistance, she moved to Springhurst Health Campus. There, she was treated with the red carpet being rolled out. She was a social butterfly with others, her personality was magnetic, the staff showered her with love, and she knew no stranger.

JoAnn also had quite a work history. Right out of college, she worked for Trailways Busline in Indy as a secretary, then Thomas & Skinner magnet company as a secretary, and the IU Medical Center as a secretary. She then joined forces with her husband and brother-in-law at Ambassador Heating & Cooling as their secretary, boss, and supervisor. She was affectionately known as Maw by all. JoAnn concluded her career as Dr. Gary Sharp's medical secretary. JoAnn finally retired at the age of 82.

JoAnn is survived by her loving children, Kathleen (Roger) Wilson and Joseph (Ronda) Hoagland; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; niece, Lisa Cothron; brother-in-law, Richard Hoagland; and countless friends.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Hoagland; daughter, Mary Best; son, Michael Hoagland; sister, Rosalie Alsphaugh; nephew, Gary Lee Alsphaugh; niece, Susan Alsphaugh; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Burton.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield. Rosary will be held 20 minutes prior.
