Melvin Lee Jackley

Melvin Lee Jackley, 90, Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Melvin was born on February 28, 1934, in Elwood, IN, to Lester Lee and Mildred Lanor (Gibson) Jackley. He graduated from Maxwell High School. On July 17, 1955, he married the love of his life, Alberta M. Young.

Melvin was always an active man, seldom sitting down to relax. He loved to snow ski, water ski, hunt out West, woodwork, play the guitar, and write songs. Melvin and his family enjoyed boating at Lake Tippecanoe beginning in 1956 and continuing until 2012. Melvin and Alberta often traveled. They enjoyed trips to Germany, Hawaii, and wintered in Florida from 1995 until 2017. They also square danced and played euchre. After Alberta passed, Melvin remained active and spent every Sunday at The Barn with friends enjoying music, dancing, and food. Melvin's memberships included those in the Greenfield Elks Lodge #1720, the Eden Masonic Lodge #477, and the Greenfield Kiwanis Club. Melvin worked as a lab technician for Eli Lily from 1956 to his retirement on December 31, 1990. Besides working in the corporate realm, Melvin also farmed throughout his life, namely in Hancock County. Melvin attended Shiloh Christian Church, Greenfield Christian Church, and Curry's Chapel Church.

Melvin is survived by his children: Debbie (John) Schlumbohm, Gary "Mark" Jackley, Donald (Becky) Jackley, and Dean (Theresa) Jackley; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Judy (Denny) Fisk; brother, Darrell (Jan) Jackley; and 5 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Lee Jackley; mother, Mildred Lanor Jackley Loudenback; wife, Alberta of 66 years; and brother, Morris Jackley.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, with the service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Indiana Chapter.
