Rebecca "Becky" Riley Obituary

Rebecca Sue Riley (nee' Sanders) died on November 9, 2025, after a brief illness. She was born on September 1, 1950, in New Castle, IN to William D. and Roberta Cole Sanders. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1968, going on to earn a bachelor's degree in education from Ball State University in 1972 and a master's degree in education from Ball State University in 1974.

She married Daniel Riley on November 25, 1978, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Indianapolis. Dan and Becky established their home in Greenfield, where they have lived since.

She spent her entire teaching career in New Castle Community Schools, retiring from Riley Elementary School in 2005. Becky was a 50-year member of the New Castle Presbyterian Church, where she was an ordained deacon.

In Greenfield, Becky first focused on supporting her son, Bill's, schools, serving on the PTA at Weston and Lincoln Park Elementary Schools. She was member of the drama, chorus, soccer, and athletic booster clubs from 2001 through 2005. She was a founding board member of Parents Promoting Soccer Dreams and stayed active on the board until the Greenfield-Central High School soccer fields obtained lights.

Becky found great purpose and joy in serving on and leading several committees and organizations. She was an active member of Greenfield Kiwanis for over 20 years and served as President from 2014-2015. She served as a Board member of the Set A Good Example Foundation and helped reorganize it into the Greenfield-Central School Foundation. She was a nine-year Board member of the Hancock Health Foundation Board and served on the Women Helping Women committee. Becky was an active member of the P.E.O. in New Castle, where she was chapter president, as well as the New Castle Altruistic Club and the Henry County Retired Teachers Association. She served as a volunteer at Hancock Regional Hospital, working at the information desk in the lobby for several years.

Becky was active in city government and the Republican Party. She was elected as a precinct committeeman and state convention delegate four times. She was the Greenfield-Central School Board of Trustees appointment to the City of Greenfield Planning Commission beginning in 2008, where she was current president.

Becky is survived by her husband, Dan; her son Bill and daughter-in-law, Sarah Summers; her grandchildren Arthur and Zada Riley; her sister, Dee Koehler and partner Kent Keesling; brother-in-law Walter Riley and wife Pam; niece Jessica Koehler; nephew Christopher Riley and wife Christine; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Michael Koehler.
