BENSON FUTRELL DENTON Mr. Benson Saunders Futrell, Jr. of Forest Park Drive Denton, NC died Wednesday, November 27 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. A Graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, December 1 at Denton Town Cemetery conducted by Rev. Sharon Lee. The family will see friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times will be at the residence on Forest Park Drive. Following the graveside service a Reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Park Place in Denton. Mr. Futrell was born May 11, 1936 in Troy, NC to Susie Bruton Futrell and Benson Saunders Futrell. He graduated from Denton High School 1954, attended Pfeiffer College and joined the US Navy 1956 where he served as a corpsman. After his discharge, he worked as a truck driver. He then worked at the family business, Futrell Brothers Lumber Company until his retirement. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed the camaraderie and competition of the game. He was a Lifetime Master Mason and a member of the Oasis Temple, Charlotte, NC. During his last weeks, he showed courage and humor, entertaining his family with stories of his youth. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shelby Surratt Futrell of the Home, two sons and their wives, Benson S. "Ben" Futrell, III and wife Addie of Moncks Corner, SC and James Bruton "Jimmy" Futrell and wife Jody of Lexington, and four beautiful granddaughters, Emma Futrell, Laura Futrell, Alyssa Futrell and Ashlyn Futrell, and his sister, Rebecca Futrell Markham of Vass. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James B. Futrell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Hinkle Hospice House. Their dedication, compassion and extraordinary care over the last 3 weeks were a blessing to the entire family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Clifton Baker and also the staff of NH MED of Denton, especially Faith Martin, who was so helpful through a very difficult time, and was only a phone call away.
