Bernice Koury Styers

GREENSBORO BERNICE KOURY STYERS, 92, DIED ON January 30, 2015. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, February 7 at 2:00 at Jamestown United Methodist Church in Jamestown, NC. A native to the community for years and an avid golfer, Bernice Styers held the titles of Club Champion at Forest Oaks Country Club and captain of the golf team at Starmount Country Club. She served on the Central YMCA Board and had previously been employed by the IRS. Bernice Styers owned Plantation Supper Club, showplace of the Carolinas for years, with her sister Ernestine Podgorny and brother Fred Koury. She attended Greensboro High School, now Grimsley High School and Woman's College, now UNCG. Bernice Styers was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ronald L. Styers; parents Said and Adele Koury; brother Fred Koury, sisters Clara Koury and Ernestine Podgorny; and her beloved nephew Greg Podgorny. Bernice Styers is survived by her son, Ron Styers and daughter-in-law Karen Styers; granddaughters Kaylee Styers Cibik and her husband Lance Cibik, Ashley Styers; sister-in-law Ruth Koury; nieces Adele DeOrio, Wendy Mills, and Tony Crowson; nephews Dr. Eman Podgorny, George Podgorny, Fred Koury, and Flake Koury. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to St. Jude Hospital or to the Christopher Reeve Foundation.
