GREENSBORO Billy Baxter Byrd, 90, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale. Mr. Byrd was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He bravely fought for his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in WWII, serving in the infantry in Europe. His career was in the sign/outdoor advertising industry working alongside his brother-in-law, Jim Allen, at Allen Displays of Greensboro for many years. For a time, he created and led his own company, Southeastern Sign and Display. He later retired in his early 80's from Burton Signworks of Mount Airy. He loved to play golf, he loved the coast, but most of all loved his family. Mr. Byrd was born in South Carolina but lived most of his life in Guilford County, NC. He was a member of Jamestown Friends Meeting in Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Peggy A. Byrd, and his parents Carl and Georgia Byrd. He is survived by his son Bill Byrd, Jr. and his wife Dorothy of Florida, his son Steve Byrd and his wife Donna of Summerfield, and his daughter Sheri Colvin and her husband Bud of Greensboro. He is also survived by his three siblings; Carl Byrd, Jr., Betty Allen, and Francis Park, and grandchildren; Michael Byrd, Laura Moats, and Kelly Marshall, as well as several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel, 5926 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Countryside Manor Resident's Activity Fund, P.O.
