Carl Frederick Abbe, 77, of Stokesdale, NC passed away Monday, July 24th, 2023. He was born April 7th, 1946, to the late Carl and Else Abbe in Brooklyn, NY.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Forbis & Dick Stokesdale Chapel.

Carl is survived by his life partner, Lisa Whalen; sister, Carol Abbe; children: Kelly Abbe (Angela Miller), Kenny Abbe (Lisa Abbe) and Kurt Whalen; grandchildren: Harper Abbe, Kimber Abbe, and Isabella Whalen and his beloved dogs, Max and Maggie.

Carl studied engineering at Brooklyn Tech and served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his service, he found success as a mechanical engineer and project manager, working across the globe. He moved from NY to NC with his family in 1988, where he continued his engineering career until 2004 when he became the owner and President of Calibers Indoor Gun Range in Greensboro. He had an incredible passion for marksmanship, instruction, and gun safety, which he continued to advocate for after his retirement in 2017.

Carl was a man of faith, who saw God's beauty in people, nature, and in his surroundings. He had a strong love for others; he always gave his time, money, and effort to helping those in need. Carl was a lifelong learner; he was highly knowledgeable about a variety of subjects in which he enjoyed sharing. He was a person of his word, reliable, and always steadfast in his beliefs. Carl was an avid outdoorsman who loved to kayak, fish, and hunt. He had a gentle spirit, who loved his animals abundantly.

Carl was a wonderful father, partner, and friend. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren, and in the people who were fortunate to know and love him.
