David Oakley Obituary

Oakley, David Keith "Wildman"

May 23, 1955 - July 27, 2021

Mr. David Keith "Wildman" Oakley, 66, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at his home in Greensboro.

David's funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, at Forbis & Dick – Stokesdale with Rev. Ron Tuck officiating. Burial will follow at Flat Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, August 7, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 8320 US 158 in Stokesdale.

A native of Guilford County, David was born on May 23, 1955, the son of David Lee Oakley and Virginia Nichols Oakley. David recently retired from Gilbarco with 41 years' service, where his mechanical abilities served him well. He loved tinkering and could fix just about anything. David was a giving, happy man with a keen sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

In his spare time, David could be found gardening, fishing, traveling or watching racing. Las Vegas was a favorite destination. But most of all, time spent with family, children and grandchildren was his treasure on earth. He was preceded in death by his mother, and son, Dennis Keith Oakley.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Bradshaw Whittle of Greensboro; father David Lee Oakley, Jr. of Reidsville; daughter Lindsey Oakley Legge (Justin) of Summerfield; stepson Howard Hamilton Whittle, IV of Greensboro;; stepdaughter Shelby Francis Whittle of Charlotte; sisters Cindy Andrews (Roy) of Reidsville, Sherri Tuck (Ron) of Summerfield; brother Jeff Oakley (Wendy) of High Point; 5 grandchildren, Wyatt Oakley, Mason Turner, Kelsey Legge, Preston Legge, and Hudson Legge; and the mother of his children, Sandy Oakley of Reidsville.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4615 Dundas Drive, Suite 103, Greensboro, NC 27407.
