After completing his military service, he moved to New York and completed his internship at the Jewish Hospital in Brooklyn in Internal Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the NC Baptist Hospital and the Bronx Hospital.

Returning to Greensboro in 1950, he started his Internal Medical practice, and served thousands of patients in Greensboro and the surrounding communities for over 40 years.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Annemarie, his three children: John Marks (Lori), Marianne Marks Langer, and Kelly Marks (Nancy), seven Grandchildren including Devorah, Ilana, Matthew, Stephen, Cameron, Grayson, and Kendall, two Great-Grandchildren, Ziva and Thaddeus, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close extended family Wolfgang, Stefan, Mikayla, Dominique, and Daniel Dotterweich.

Edgar loved watching all sports and was an avid fan of Duke and Wake Forest. He loved and played golf throughout his life and boasted making two holes-in-one. During the Greater Greensboro Open, he often entertained golf pros at his home including Tony Lema, Lionel Hebert, Lee Trevino, Tom Weiskopf, Hale Irwin, and Sir Tony Jacklin. One of the most wellknown of his patients and a friend was Richard Petty.

Edgar and Annemarie were fortunate to travel extensively throughout the world to places such as The Great Wall of China, pyramids of Egypt, Asia, Europe, South America, and many other destinations around the world.

Dr. Marks was an active member in numerous civic and professional organizations including Gate City Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, N.C. Medical Society, Greensboro Arts Council, Piedmont Triad Council of the Aging, and served as President of the Sertoma Club, Inter Club Council, and the Triad Easter Seal Society. He was a lifelong member of Temple Emanuel, was a member of the Temple Brotherhood, and a past member of Starmount Forest CC and a current member of the Old North State Club. In 2006, he was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation for Exemplary Service to Medicine. After retirement, he became a lunch "buddy" at Hunter Elementary School.

The family is grateful to Teresa Opata for providing home care for the past four years, and his wife, Annemarie, for her love, devotion, and continuous care over the last three years during his health challenges.

The angels looked down from heaven one night.
They searched for miles afar,
And deep within the distance
They could see a shining star.
They knew that very instant
That the star was theirs to gain,
So they took you up to heaven,
Forever to remain.
Look down on us from heaven.
Keep us free from hurt and pain.
You'll always be remembered from Kelly&James
