JAMESTOWN Gary Teter, 79, of Jamestown, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018 very unexpectedly, surrounded by loving family while visiting in Michigan. Gary was born in Waterloo, Iowa on October 31, 1939 to the late Ray and Florence (Knapp) Teter. Thirty two years ago, Gary married his best friend, Laura Patchel, at First United Methodist Church in Richmond, MI. After serving in the US Navy, Gary made a career with the Michigan State Police. He served in several communities, making many beloved friends. After his retirement from the MSP, Gary worked as a medical fraud investigator, work that brought him much fulfillment and more friends. He had an avid passion for fishing, especially with his son, Jim, of whom he was so very proud. He touched so many and will be greatly missed. Gary was predeceased by his son, Ray. Surviving in addition to his wife Laura are his son, Jim (Missy) Teter of New Jersey, granddaughter, Raina, and the Patchel family: Peg, Terry (Clara), Bruce (Laura), Elizabeth, Ted (Siranda), Kristen, Kathy, Alison, David, Meredith, and Andrew. He enjoyed watching all of the young people named grow and find their ways in life, especially his beautiful and smart granddaughter (who also loves to fish). Services will be held Saturday, December 29 in Michigan. A gathering of friends will be held at Laura's home shortly. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
