JAMESTOWN GEORGE VERNON MCNEILL, Jr., 76, passed away at the Hospice Home in High Point on May 4, 2015. The son of George and Lois McNeill, George was born in Greensboro on December 24, 1938. George graduated from Greensboro Senior High School, served in the US Army and graduated from Guilford College. He spent his entire working career at Jefferson Standard/Jefferson Pilot Life Insurance Company in the Investments Department, retiring in 2000. He ran 10 marathons in a span of 5 years in his 40's, and traveled together with his wife in many countries. During retirement he was a volunteer reader for Triad Information Reading Service, a radio news show for the blind locally based at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, satisfying a lifetime love of the radio and newspapers. George is survived by his wife, Eileen Futrell McNeill, stepchildren Suzanne McNeill Abrams of Rock Hill, SC and Richard B. Fluharty, (Leigh) of Indianapolis, IN, four step-grandchildren, Colin Abrams, and Madeline, Logan and Kyle Fluharty, his sister, Meredith McNeill Kilpatrick (Jerry) of Summerfield, NC and nephew Jed Kilpatrick (Alicia) of Wichita, Kansas and Kendra Kilpatrick Watson (Tra) of Newton, NC. Special thanks go to Rick Diehl, RN,BSN,CHPN of the Cone Cancer Center and to Evelyn Gallimore, Hospice Nurse, Christopher Erlich, Hospice Chaplain and the entire staff at Hospice of the Piedmont. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday, May 8 in the sanctuary parlor of Jamestown Presbyterian Church, 1804 Guilford College Road, Jamestown, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, May 9 at Westminster Gardens Cemetery, 3601 Whitehurst Road in Greensboro with the Reverend Dr. Jay Smith of Jamestown Presbyterian Church officiating.In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262-7009.
