Geraldine Absher Obituary

Geraldine Stone Absher

March 31, 1935 - October 6, 2025

Geraldine "Dean" Stone Absher, 90, of Greensboro, died Monday, October 6, 2025. She was born in Wilkes County, N.C., to the late Ovid "Chap" Stone and Tessie Bryant Stone. She graduated from Mountain View High School and subsequently went to work as a receptionist in an insurance office where an acquaintance set her up on a blind date with his brother, Bueford Kenneth "BK" Absher. They hit it off and enjoyed 57 years of marriage.

Geraldine's family remembers her as an unceasing source of encouragement and love to her family and friends. She was an avid gardener who loved her Baptist hymns. She was a loyal friend and a Tar Heel through and through. Above all, she was a beloved wife, mother, and forever "Grandma" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (including her beloved great grand-dog). A regular fixture at school and activity pick ups and drop offs, Geraldine never missed one of her grandchildren's performances. She happily had them over for weekend sleepovers, took care of them when they were home sick from school, and always made sure to prepare their favorite dishes when they'd come over for dinner (even after they were well into adulthood). She was a humble, sweet soul who will be deeply missed and remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her dependability, and her calm strength.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, BK Absher; as well as her brothers, JD Stone, Ovid Stone Jr., Hubert Stone, and Bobby Stone. She is survived by children, Randall Absher (Ruth) of Summerfield and Lisa Neal (Chris Trentini) of Greensboro; grandchildren, Meredith Kincaid (John Hopeck) of Atlanta, Michael Absher (Ashia) of Greensboro, Brooke Kincaid (Aaron Colton) of Atlanta, and Karen Absher (Benjamin Lin) of Winston-Salem; great-grandchildren, Ellie Absher, Lucy Hopeck, and Nina Hopeck. She is also survived by brother, Gary Stone, of North Wilkesboro; and sister, Linda Church of Purlear, N.C.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff and caregivers at Heritage Greens Verra Spring for the extraordinary care given to Geraldine over the last two years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Forbis and Dick-Guilford Chapel, 5926 W. Friendly Ave., with Dr. Brady Huneycutt officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Guilford Baptist Church, 5904 W. Market St., Greensboro, NC, 27410 or the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org.
