Gordon Perry Sr.

Gordon Marshall Perry, 97 passed away peacefully at home with his children by his side on Friday, February 7th, 2025.

Gordon was born on March 27th, 1927, in Rome, Georgia. He was the son of the late Henry H. Perry and Jayne Perry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Hazel H. Perry; sons, Foster W. Perry and Richard H. Perry; brother, Robert F. Perry; half-brother, Wilburn Perry; and half-sister, Judy Perry Wright.

Gordon is survived by his brother, Henry Haskell Perry; his son, Marshall Perry Jr. (Cynthia); daughters, Janie Perry Ball and Pam Perry Bruce (Jeff); grandchildren, Kenneth Perry, Scott Perry, Elizabeth Ball Szamier, Ricky Jay Ball, Melissa Bruce and Kimberly Bruce; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Gordon was a proud WWII veteran who served in the US Navy. Following his naval service, he joined the American LaFrance Fire Equipment Company, which led him to a successful 25-year career as an Assistant Fire Chief with the Greensboro Fire Department.

Gordon served as the past Master of the Revolution Lodge 552 and served two terms as Commander of Cone American Legion Post 386.

Gordon has a wide range of interests and hobbies. He was a gifted artist, master mechanic, and jack of all trades. He was an avid fisherman and along with friends and fellow co-workers, they built a fishing cabin at Cape Hatteras that is still being enjoyed today.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks and deepest gratitude to his amazing caregivers Kiki and Michelle, and to his hospice team Debbie, Brian, and Byran.

Per Gordon's wishes, there will be a graveside service for his family in Rome, Georgia at a later date.
