Jackson Hogan Obituary

Hogan, Jackson Willard

December 2, 1934 - October 9, 2023

Jackson Willard Hogan of Greensboro, North Carolina, died peacefully in his sleep on October 9, 2023. The son of the late Willard Alvin Hogan of Asheville, North Carolina, and the late Lois Emma Jackson of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Jack grew up in Asheville, where he graduated from Lee Edwards (now Asheville) High School in 1953. Jack won a scholarship to Duke University and was befriended by his roommate Mark Longcrier, whose family welcomed young Jack into their home and offered him summer employment in the textile mill at Saxapahaw, North Carolina. He later joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and worked in the Duke athletic department.

After graduating with an accounting degree in 1958, Jack went to work for JP Stevens in Greensboro. He then moved on to Alderman Studios in High Point and later worked for Servomation, Inc., in Greensboro. Jack spent twenty years as the chief financial officer for Mother Murphy's Laboratories, Inc., (now Mother Murphy's Flavors) in Greensboro, a job that he loved and that left him smelling perpetually of vanilla. Jack also offered tax assistance to several small businesses and friends.

Jack dedicated many years to the National Association of Accountants (now the Institute for Management Accountants), twice serving as president of both the local Piedmont Triad chapter and the Carolinas regional council. He also served as a national director for North Carolina.

Jack served as an elder and deacon at Faith Presbyterian Church in Greensboro.

A lifelong golfer, Jack was a member of The Cardinal Country Club and later played with the seniors who gathered weekday mornings at the Guilford College United Methodist Church. Jack enjoyed reading about history; visiting the Biltmore, where his grandfather had worked as a forester; and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane Grey Williamson Hogan of Greensboro and his two children, Marcus Ashton Hogan (Linda) of Woodberry Forest, Virginia, and Martha Hogan Brown, of Durham, North Carolina. Jack is also survived by his five grandchildren, Miranda Larson Hogan (Michael Silvay), Anna Grey Larson Hogan (Andy Davis), Cordelia Larson Hogan, Jackson Noah Brown, and Kylie Jane Brown, all of whom were the joy of his life. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Cleo Ford Hogan, and his best friend, Mark Longcrier.

Finally, Jack's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Jack's caregivers and companions, Doris Jones, her daughter, Deidre Jones and her grandson, Earl Sams, for their unwavering devotion to Jack in his later years.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the Duke Children's Hospital or to a charity of the donor's choice.

To the Hogan Family.
I was an employee for First Citizens Bank and that was where I met Jack Hogan. He was the most pleasant person to hold a conversation with and talk about family. Treasurer all your memories and know he is in a better place. Linda Sims
