HIGH POINT James Douglas Susong, Doug to everyone he knew or ever met, went to live with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 18th. Born May 6, 1955, in Morristown, Tennessee to parents James (Pap) and Jean Susong, Doug is survived by his wife and partner of 45 years, Jody Collins, his eldest son Matthew, wife Katie and their expected first child, and youngest son Michael. Also, surviving are his sister and her husband, Vickey and Robert Merlin and Jody's sisters Toye Payne (Richard) and Kelly Collins (Hank Rochelle). A remembrance service, followed by a reception, will be held at Green Street Baptist Church in High Point on Sunday, April, 30 at 2 p.m. - 303 N Rotary Dr. High Point, NC. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Family Service of the Piedmont - 902 Bonner Dr. Jamestown, NC 27282. The most genuine of people-persons, among Doug's many great gifts, was his ability to elevate the mood and spirit of every single room in which he stepped foot. He carried with him the joy of his close relationship with Jesus Christ and delivered its message at every opportunity - in the most earnest and elegant of ways. A talented and avid musician, Doug's unique vocal delivery and instrumental talents graced countless weddings, funerals, church choirs, and sporting events. He loved each musician around him and every member of any audience he was lucky enough to entertain. Doug was a proud graduate of North Carolina State University. Throughout his life, he became a gourmet cook and traveled extensively across America and Europe with his family. He taught his boys soccer, tennis, golf, football, baseball, skiing, snowboarding, etc. with unrelenting vigilance and love. Never missing a game. Never missing a chance to teach a greater lesson through the triumphs and sorrows of competition. We will all miss terribly the greatest man we ever knew.
