Janet Morris Obituary

Janet Morris, affectionately known as "Poochie," gained her wings March 7, 2024. Janet will be remembered for her infectious smile, gentle spirit, and compassion for all. Janet was a proud graduate of Dudley High School, where she was a majorette. She went on to graduate from Jefferson College. Janet's concern for others carried over in her career choices as she worked to make sure others received the support they needed while employed for many years at the Farmers Home Administration. She later transitioned into the Health Insurance industry, where she held several roles, first working with Athena Health Care and finally retiring from a supervisor role with United Health Care in 2023.

Janet was a selfless wife, mother, and sister who always put the wellbeing of others before her own. She was married to beloved, George, for over 40 years. They had one son together, Tyrone. Janet attended Cedar Grove Tabernacle of Praise where she emphasized the importance of accepting and serving God, living life to the fullest and focusing on the present. Her love for God radiated in her personality and the compassion she shared with each person she encountered. She spent her free time decorating and was an avid football fan. She will no doubt continue to cheer on her Pittsburgh Steelers from heaven.

Janet leaves a void in the hearts of family and friends. Janet is survived by her husband George Morris, son Tyrone Morris (Sarah), and precious granddaughter, Arieana. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Leon Gant Sr. and Annie Gant, siblings, Clyde Gant, Shirley Rowe, and Venjamin Gant. Janet's memories will be cherished by her sisters, Patricia Curry (Patrick) of Conley, GA, Karen Washington (Bobby), Debra Clinton and Pamela Hill (Frederick) all of Greensboro, as well as, our brothers Leon Gant Jr. of Greensboro, Andrew Gant (Mila) of Richmond, VA, Jermaine Gant (Valerie) of Columbia, SC, and Brian Gant of Dallas, Texas. She also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
