John Carter Houston, a resident of High Point, passed away April 15, 2025 at his home.
He was born December 26, 1949, in Poplarville, MS, a son to S.A. Flynt and Irma Lott Flynt, and was a music leader at the Cathedral of His Glory before he went into full time ministry of his own, as a minister, singer and song writer.
On January 5, 1990, he married the former Billie Kennedy, who survives of the residence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother Jimmy Flynt; a beloved grandson, Evan James Flynt; and a son John whom he loved dearly. Also surviving are two sons, Thorin Flynt (Kayte) of Breinigsville, PA; Jesse Flynt (Constance) of Lake Alfred, FL; and a step-daughter, Michelle Kennedy of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Lynda Martin of Gautier, MS, Debra Flynt Garrett (Michael Page) of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Connor and Cate O'Reilly, Eli Jude, Allie and Phillip Flynt, and a few nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point, NC, with Ava Brewer officiating. Visitation will immediately follow.

John used to play his songs at our church back in late 90s when I was a kid. I loved his music especially the one about a sailor named Jimmy. I could not find this song anywhere and wanted a copy for my kids. I found him on FB 25 years later actually a month before he passed and he was kind enough to share all his songs for free. I didn't know him personally but his songs showed his passion for Jesus and his saving grace. The man loved him some Jesus and now he gets to sing for Him in glory for eternity. Thank you John will see you soon, cause "There's a Rider coming!!!"
