Greensboro Joseph LaFayette Meachum quietly joined the Lord on January 17, 2016, surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Persimmon Grove AME Church. Joseph was born on April 22, 1925, in Anson County, NC. LaFayette recalled proudly that he was one of the first soldiers on the beach June 6, 1944, when Western Allied forces invaded Normandy, France. On March 8, 1947, he married the love of his life, Theresa Chavis. They enjoyed more than 68 years of marriage. His greatest accomplishment and life's joy was being a father and grandfather. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Theresa; three sons, Larry, Lorenzo and Ralph; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
