GREENSBORO On May 22, 2018, Dr. Kathleen Casey finished the final steps on her life journey at the age of 73. Dr. Casey was a resident of Greensboro for the last 29 years and a retired professor from the School of Education at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. A native of Queens, New York, Dr. Casey received a Bachelors degree from the College of New Rochelle, a Masters degree from University of Leeds, United Kingdom and a PhD from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Kathleen Casey will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Makeba Casey of Greensboro; sisters and brothers Eileen Casey, Stephen Casey, Christine Dwyer, Leo Casey, Michelle Casey, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins, her church family at Faith Community Church, dear friends, Beloved Community Center organizers, by her UNCG colleagues and the numerous doctoral students she mentored and guided. Dr. Kathleen Casey was a lover of chocolate, good books, and gospel music. She found joy in painting pieces of art and spending time with her beloved daughter. She was recognizable by her red-framed eyeglasses and the single long braid down her back. She was passionate about her work as an educator and dissertation advisor and was incredibly proud of her students' accomplishments. Throughout her life, Dr. Casey was committed to working towards social justice. Dr. Casey's family and friends would like to give heartfelt thanks to Hospice of the Piedmont for their kindness and support during the end of Dr. Casey's journey. A memorial service will be held at Faith Community Church on Sunday June 3rd, 2018 at 2 p.m. Donations in memory of Dr. Casey may be made to Beloved Community Center at https://www.belovedcommunitycenter.org/ and Doctors Without Borders at https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/.
