Lovie K. Booker was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, and grandmother; tireless educator; and loyal friend.

She died Friday, February 11, 2022 at the age of 92.

Dr. Booker received her Ph.D. in foods/nutrition and food service management from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1983. She joined the faculty of Bennett College in 1974 and retired in 1993 as chair and professor of nutrition in the Department of Home Economics.

Lovie was a devoted member of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Greensboro, NC. She was also an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority.

She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Evans Booker. Survivors include her four children – Bonita Fay Booker Mims (Keith), Glenn Evans Booker (Phyllis), Vicki Blondine Booker (Letitia), and Lovie Evette Booker; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

An indoor memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Bennett College, Pfeiffer Chapel (900 E. Washington Street, Greensboro, NC 27401). The AKA sorority will hold a special tribute in the chapel prior to the service, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Both the special tribute and memorial service will be open to the public and live-streamed via Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85487027141). To ensure everyone's health and safety, in-person attendees are required to wear a mask and abide by the rules of Pfeiffer Chapel. Masks will be provided at the door.
