MAX ODELL Obituary

MAX JEHU ODELL BROWNS SUMMIT Max Jehu "Chubby" Odell, 87, went home to be with The Lord after passing away peacefully in the home he built, surrounded by the family he loved. A 2 p.m. funeral service will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel. Interment will follow immediately afterwards at Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery. Max was born in Guilford County on May 10, 1926 to the late William and Muriel Odell. He served during WW II in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Starlight and survived several Japanese Kamikaze raids. He was also honored to see the raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima. He was retired as a tool maker from AMP (later Tyco). Max was a member of Gospel Baptist Church and The American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and going to yard sales with his friends. He especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. Max was preceded in death by a sister, Becky Devane. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Doris, as well as two sons, Larry (Wendy) Odell , and Timmy (Connie) Odell, both of Greensboro. Also surviving are grandchildren Joe, Matthew, and Krystal, in addition to a great-grandchild, Liam. Other survivors include a sister, Peggy Manning, and two special friends, Howard Pegram and Reid Holt. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26 at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street. Online condolences may be sent to www.forbisanddick.com. Special thanks to the staff of Community Hospice and Home Care of Burlington for the loving care shown to Max and the Odell family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Community Home Care and Hospice of Burlington, 2541 S. Church St., Burlington, NC, 27215.
