Percy Sears Obituary

Sears, Jr., Percy

1951 - 2022

January 23, 2022, Percy Harward Sears, Jr. went to be with the Lord.

Born October 12, 1951 in Greensboro, NC, Percy attended Ben L. Smith High School and graduated from Hargrave Military Academy. He received his B.A. in philosophy from Campbell University, where he played soccer and chess.

He was an owner of Deep River Industrial Products, and worked in insurance until retirement. Percy was also a member of the Selective Service Draft Board.

His motto in life was "Be Here Now." He loved serving others, traveling, and was a wonderful cook. Percy was often seen wearing Hawaiian shirts because it made him feel like he was on vacation. He was known for his big heart and generosity. He was dedicated to his family and to his dog Diggs. He enjoyed long dog walks and renovating his parents' home and his own.

He was a paranormal studies enthusiast and would often share exciting reports of UFO activity. He was loved deeply by his family and friends. His sense of humor will be missed and his stories will be treasured always.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Harward Sears Sr. and Gladys Sartin Sears, his brother H. Christopher Sears, and his daughter Maegan Sears.

He is survived by his sisters, Marcia Sears Regan, husband Woody, and Mary Sears Truslow, husband Will; his brother John R. Sears and wife Teresa; his sister-in-law Chris Roulhac; his daughter Kristin Sears; his grandchildren, Jaedan Sears and Victoria Murray; and his nephews, Brenden Regan, wife Gina, and daughter Evie, Evan Morrison, wife Priscilla, and stepdaughter Ciara, and Will Sears.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Lynn McNair, Nerian Vangen, Gay Adele, Rochelle Russell, Cynthea Morris, Connie Son, Tony and Sheri Johnson, Todd Freeland, the Authoracare Hospice Team and everyone who gave their love, prayers, & support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Authoracare Hospice. Condolences may be offered at Georgebrothersfuneral.com.

A graveside celebration of life will be held February 1, 12 p.m. at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Hawaiian shirts are encouraged.

My deepest Sympathy. I have fond memories of playing basketball with Percy and Chris in their Driveway as we were growing up. I thought highly of both of them.

Our family is so sorry for your loss. We grew up on Marion Street, a few doors down from the Sears' home and spent many happy hours playing with the Sears kids.

Like so many in our community, I grew up with Percy at FSBC. He was a good friend who always had a kind word for others. Since going to different schools, our friendship grew apart but we reconnected in 1991 going through my divorce until I remarried. Those times were difficult but Percy always knew what to say at the most opportune times.
I know he will be missed by his family and many friends. May you find comfort in knowing that Percy is in a much better place with our Lord and Savior.
