Robert "Bob" Hobbs, 95, of Kearney passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025 at Kinship Pointe in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Kearney First United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bob was born May 24, 1930 in Hiawatha, Kan., to John and Lillian (Thonen) Hobbs. He later moved to York, Neb., graduating from York High School in 1948. He received his Bachelor's degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Business Law Administration in 1954. On June 12, 1954, he was united in marriage to love of his life, Artie Westcott, in Holdrege, Neb. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry as a Captain and Ranger from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. Bob began his career at Home Federal in Lexington. Bob then worked for Occidental Nebraska Savings Bank in Kearney and Fremont. He also did real estate appraisal and taught business classes at UNK and through Community Action Partnership of Mid Nebraska.

Bob was an active member of the Kearney First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. He was also a longtime member of Kearney Community Theater, Masonic Temple and the Elks. Bob enjoyed creating stained glass pieces, fishing, hunting and snow skiing. He also enjoyed bike riding and often times took family members on biking and skiing trips across Nebraska and Colorado. Bob loved spending time at their cabin at Plum Creek Canyon and sharing it with family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Artie Hobbs of Kearney; sons, Winfield Scott Hobbs of Seattle, Wash., and Kent (Jincy) Hobbs of Howell, Mich.; daughter, Alyson (Mike) Carlson of Grant, Neb.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dan Hobbs of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Ron Flock of Papillion; sister-in-law, Vicki Westcott of Holdrege; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen Flock of Papillion; brother, John Hobbs II.
